Learning In The Making Conference

Last Friday we did a Learning in the making Conference. My favourite workshop that I did was Flax weaving because I learnt how to flax weave, made a flax flower and got to take it home. I also enjoined filming because we got to make a video of what ever we wanted and all of us got Jelly beans. My group made a video about a murderer that takes a stranger and kills him.On Friday I learnt how to flax weave , make a film and add special effects.

iDrive

This week for iDrive my friend Charlie and I worked together to make a house out of cardboard. iDrive is an activity that we do on Thursdays. For iDrive you have to pick an activity and create something like a house made of wood, a building out of blocks or maybe even a play. These are all the activity's you can do, carpentry, roll play, blocks, sand pit, Lego, box models and cards. The learning power's that Charlie and I used were collaborating because we got to shared ideas, problem solving because we got stuck on making the walls so we thought of a way to fix it and didn't give up.

Princess Diana

1. Princess Diana was born on July 1, 1961. Princess Diana became Lady Diana after her father inherited the title of Earl in 1975. She married inheritor to the British Throne, Prince Charles, on July 29, 1981. They had two sons, Harry and William but later Princess Diana divorced in 1996.
2. Princess Diana was known as The People's Princess because she had personal contact with people that were sick like picking up sick babies. Princes Diana was not scared to have contact with sick people. That is why she was called The People's Princess.
3. Diana spend most of her time visiting the homeless and visiting ill patients in hospitals. Diana helped 150 charities all over the world to make peoples lives better. Diana has 2 sons prince Harry and Prince William.

iDrive

This week my friends Josh, Marcus, Daniel and I worked together to make a prison for some bears. It took us a while to build it because it kept on falling over but we didn't give up and kept on building.

Our project was very fun because we got to share Ideas, Collaborate and problem solve.

iDrive

This week for iDrive my friends Logan, Josh, Marcus and I worked together to make a castle for or little friend Bob. It took us a while to make the front of the castle so we just started making Bob's bedroom.

 Our project has been very fun so far because we have got to share Ideas and collaborate with each other.

IDrive

This week for IDrive my friends, Logan, Joshua and I worked together to make a sign that points to our classroom. After we made it it was looking pretty good but not good enough so we just added a little more detail and painted it bronze.

 Now we are working on a little man that we are going to build next to the sign. Our project has been very fun because we got to share idea's, work together as a team and try new things like building a sign.

Lino Prints

Last term we had to do a lino print of a flower or an animal. These are the steps that I had to go through.

• First I had to draw what I wanted to cut on a piece of lino.
• Second I had to cut out the pencil lines.
• After that I had to go to a table and painted ink onto my lino.
• Then I had to put my lino under a piece of paper and roll on top of it to get the ink on the lino on to the paper.
• Next I had to wash all of the ink off the lino
• After that I had to cut more things out of the lino.
• Next I had to paint a different coloured ink on my lino and roll it on to the paper.
• Then I had to wash all of the ink off.
• After that I had to cut even more out of the lino.
• Then I painted black ink on my lino and rolled it on to the paper.
• Next I had to wash the ink off the lino

Finally there you have it, that is how I made this lino print.

My School Break

On the school holidays I travelled to our property in Whanganui with my Mum, Dad and little brother. When we got there we went to the cattle yards to collected some wood for a fire in the that we were going to make that afternoon. We packed all of the wood in the back of the Ranger and drove up a hill to a hole were we were going to make the fire. After that we went up to the camp site to clean up all of the wood and plastic that was lying around the tent. It took about 2 hours but we finally had finished so we drove to the caravan to have some yummy ham, cheese and Mayo sandwiches. when we were done eating we just headed off to bed and watched a movie for 2 hours and then went to bed.

The next day we went to Whanganui to get new tires for the ranger and then went back to the caravan and went hunting for a stag on my Dads friends property. When we got there we started walking but we couldn't find anything, but we didn't give up so we walked for another 2 and a half hours and we still didn't find anything so we just went home, went to town and ate lunch. After we ate lunch we waited about 3 hours and then ate spaghetti for dinner and went to bed. The next morning we packed and headed back home.

The Blood Sucking Gorila

I wish I was a blood sucking gorilla that had a tigers tail, a duck's beak, a sharks teeth and a dinosaurs spikes. If I was a blood sucking gorila I would give little kids nightmares about me coming into their rooms and eating them in one big bite. I would be so scary that I would be scared of myself.                                                                                                                                                                    One day I actually made a potion that would transform me into whatever terrifying creature I wanted. When I drank the potion I felt a bit sick and went to bed but when I woke up... I was the scariest monster in the world - a blood sucking Gorilla!! When I got up off of my bed and looked in the mirror I was so scared at myself I found a brown stain on the back of my pants and a wet spot on the front.I was a bit happy though because my wish came true and now I could torture little kids in their sleep and some of the kids heads will be off when it is morning leaving their headless bodies on the floor of their rooms.

I started torturing little kids when I got used to being a blood sucking Gorilla but it wasn't that easy eating a whole head in one bite so it took me a while to actually swallow the children's heads. I went torturing every night but I got a bit of a stomach ache after a night so I had to stop eating children for a while. Anyway I have almost got caught or I could of even died before at this little girls house because her Dad walked into her room with his shotgun. Luckily I escaped unwounded. Tonight I’m going to go and try and eat the Chief's daughter Christine. When I arrived at Christine's house, I walked into her room and got ready but as soon as I was about to take her head the Chief came in, caught me with an high tech net and put me in an highly unbreakable exhibit at the zoo. Well that was the end of my torturing...you can now see me behind bars at the zoo. But don’t lean too close or you might lose your head!

NZ History in the Month of June

June the 12 1942 First Us troops arrive in Auckland
At any one time between June 1942 and mid-1944 there were between 15,000 and 45,000 American servicemen in camp in this country, mainly around Auckland and Wellington. Most servicemen spent time in New Zealand. As well as soldiers and navy, many US naval and merchant marine personnel had a short period in this country.

I think it would have been exiting for the young soldiers because coming from where they were born and travelling around the world must be a good feeling because not many people get the opportunity to go other places.

What Happends Next

This is some writing I have been doing over the past couple of days.

On one sunny day it was Mother’s Day and I was trying to make pancakes for Mum. I was a bit confused because I'd never made pancakes before but I had seen where Mum had hidden her recipe books.

I grabbed Mum’s recipe book out and set the ingredients out on the table. Next I had to mix them all together and pore some of the mixture into the pan. I’d seen my Mum do this before and she flipped the pancake on the pan, I reckon I would be able to do it so I took a step back and prepared to flip this bad boy over...1,2,3! The pancake flies out of the window into my neighbours postbox and I know there's trouble coming because there post box is locked and they are on a 3 week holiday.This is going to stink if I don’t get this pancake out!

I knew this problem would be solved quickly because I had already came up with an idea. My idea was to call my pet mouse Squeaky and send him off to go thru the mail slot, eat the pancake and lick all of the syrup up. When I went to Squeaky’s cage he wasn't there, he had already found his way into the mailbox, eaten the pancake and licked all of the syrup. I was very proud of Squeaky for solving the problem. This gave me an idea, I could ask people in the neighbourhood if I could look after their houses while their away and charge them small fees.

Sketching Group

For discovery block on Tuesday we are sketching. There is only six people allowed in the workshop. The workshop is about learning how to sketch real pictures like animals and people.The picture that I am drawing is an eye. My friend Callum drew a Ute and my friend Fin drew a horse.We get all the pictures off the internet because we can't really make up a picture that we can draw in our mind. Ripper Rugby

On Wednesday we had a Ripper Rugby day and each team got to play 4 games. My team lost 2 games, won 2 games and tied 1. I had to vs one of my friends from Kiiwi school. His name i Jacob and and he used to be in my class. We could of gone to Paeroa but we versed a really hard team at the end and lost one ten.

IXL

Today I got 100 smart score on IXL!! IXL is a on-line maths website were you can test out your maths skills. I have got three or four IXL activities done because some of them are really really hard. Here is a screen shot of my certificate when I completed an activity on IXL.

Mascots of war

There were mascots in World War 1. The mascot reminded the soldiers of home and the soldiers thought the mascots would bring them good luck . Mascots can be all kinds of animals like monkeys, goats, donkeys, horses, dogs and also a teddy bear. Mascots come from all different kinds of countries like New Zealand and Australia. Mascot sometimes die  because they get shot. One of the mascots that were killed in the war was Freda.

Literacy Wizard

I've have been doing some book club in school. The task I have been selected to do is the literacy wizard. What you have to do for the literacy wizard is read the book choose a page and paragraph, right down your reason of selection and then recommend someone that you think should read it. This is my literacy wizard.

When you first arrive at Waitotara Valley you think it looks boring and ugly but when you go up the hill on our property you get amazed by the beautiful water fall view, the smell of Manuka bush rushing through your nostrils.  Bees Buzzing away, trying to find the best spot to find the most pollen. You can hear a gentle Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the whole day long.

Goats

Goats are one of the animals that we have the most of on our property. We have all different kinds of coloured goats such as grey, white, black, brown and ginger. When you go up the hill you always get a whiff of the disgusting smell of billy goats. Nanny goats don’t smell  the same as billy goats.  When you are in proper Camo gear and you move very slowly, the goats won’t see you coming.  The  closest I have gotten to a goat without it seeing me, WITHOUT my Camo Gear on, is 3 meters.

Hunting

On a cold winters morning you wake up freezing. You get your hunting clothes on and get into the ranger desperate to get an animal.  Washing away icicles on the windscreen of the Ranger, because it was 0 Degrees overnight.   

Work Site

When you come into the Waitotara Valley you see a big working site with working tools scattered everywhere.  Tradesman and excavators ruling the property in the day time.

Swim

Looking forward to the swimming hole dad is busy digging us were the Buffalo used to wallow. Fresh mountain water meanders down the creek through the most beautiful secluded spots where there are tree ferns everywhere you look, the only sound you can hear is the treacling of water.

Maths

Me and my friend Callum got 3 medals on IXL. We worked very hard for it. IXL is an online maths website that you can learn new strategies on. You only  have a limited  amount of tasks that you can do.

Hot Water Beach

Its been a long, boring trip to the Hot water beach but when I hear the bustling crowd I get excited. Hot sand, baking in the sun and the cold ocean water-and only a shovel can bring these two together.

Swim

Splashing in the the hot water hole I dug then taking a dip in the cold ocean water.

Rock

The heated rock  heating up the water. playing hide'n go seek  between the giant rocks.

Dig

Families desperate to find a spot to dig a hole. As soon as you dig, hot water rises from below. Then it is time to play or relax and soak.

Picnic

Having a picnic in the shade, eating KFC Spicy chicken wings and drinking refreshing water. The best this after spending a hot day,  swimming in the sun is wresting in the shade on a comfy picnic blanket.

Our Lerning

                    On Thursdays we do art, there are four different groups. The group that I am in is the cityscape group and we are drawing cityscapes and then painting them. This is a picture of my art so fare.

In a few weeks or so I will show you what it looks like when it is done.
